UBarU Camp and Retreat Center Named International Dark Sky Park

As with any dark-sky park, viewing conditions will vary according to factors such as moon phases, high-cloud cover, and content of moisture in the air; however under the majority of moonless, clear nights and several hours after sunset, sky-viewers and star-gazers can expect a sky quality of at least 21.40 magnitudes per square arcsec (a solid 3 on the Bortle Scale) and under best (but not uncommon) conditions, a sky-quality that that exceeds 21.60 mag./arcsec2 which is a 2 on the Bortle Scale. For example on August 15th during the 2015 Astronomy Weekend at UbarU, sky-quality readings taken between 11:00 and midnight ranged between 21.67 – 21.86 ( a strong 2 on the Bortle Scale.)
