In March of 2020, a fire break was created along the southern border of the 142-acre UBarU Camp & Retreat Center after consultation with a knowledgeable forestry team from the Texas A&M Forestry Service, and project funding provided by the H-E-B Environmental Services Division. Besides the fire break, we were able to accomplish a great deal in eradicating cedar throughout the site by partnering volunteers with the professional cedar-clearing contractor. The cedar eradication is expected to help with replenishing the aquafer that serves UBarU, which contributes to water conservation and to our goal of sustainability We greatly appreciate the continued support provided by H-E-B to help make UBarU a better facility in serving the community by using and promoting sustainable practices, particularly in our role of educating area youth in the value of sustainable living.
