Bioblitz and Worker Bee Weekend at UBarU Friday April 19-Sunday April 21, 2024

A bioblitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. Bioblitzes are great ways to engage the public to connect to their environment while generating useful data for science and conservation. They are also an excuse for naturalists, scientists, and curious members of the public to meet in person in the great outdoors and are alot of fun!” source- https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/bioblitz+guide

Our Worker Bee weekends are a chance to help put our campus in good shape. There will be a variety of tasks ranging from small to large, indoor and outdoor. This is the perfect time to get UBarU ready for summer camps, to do some maintenance, create some new things, enjoy nature, and socialize with others. The saying “many hands make light work” is SO true.

We will gather at UBarU Friday evening for a potluck meal together. We will have time for learning, sharing and fellowship, gathering info about plants and wildlife at UBarU, and working on our facilities. Outdoor enthusiasts and helpers of all ages are invited to attend this event. Choose Bioblitz or Worker Bee or mix and match activities. Bring your enthusiasm and tools for your chosen activities (cellular device, iNaturalist app, work gloves, sturdy shoes, etc). Registration includes lodging in bunks in DMBC or camping, Saturday meals (3) and Sunday breakfast.

Saturday at 9am Cleveland Powell will give a Native Grass Identification presentation and Nature Walk

Saturday at 1pm Dawn Newcomer will give a Permaculture presentation and demonstrate compost tea making/distribution
